Il Duomo di Udine è la chiesa più importante ed imponente della città. Si trova nella suggestiva piazza Duomo, a pochi passi dalle vie principali del centro storico. La sua costruzione, nel luogo in cui già esisteva una chiesa dedicata a San Girolamo, risale al 1236 ad opera del patriarca Bertoldo di Andechs-Merania, Dal 1257 la chiesa, che all'epoca presentava una struttura tipicamente francescana, viene adibita al culto e dedicata a San Odorico. Ampliamenti successivi sono datati al 1335 quando il patriarca Bertrando di San Genesio avviò la costruzione della Cappella dell'Annunziata e consacrò l'edificio sacro con il titolo di Santa Maria Maggiore. L'interno del Duomo è dominato dallo stile barocco. Grazie alla magnificenza della famiglia Manin, (i cui Mausolei sono qui custoditi) e alla riforma settecentesca, infatti, le architetture interne vennero rese più sfarzose. Spicca internamente il maestoso presbiterio e capolavori di artisti di fama internazionale. Nella Cappella del Santissimo, ad esempio, sono conservate opere di Giambattista Tiepolo. Altri notevoli artisti che hanno contribuito ad arricchire il Duomo sono Pomponio Amalteo, il Pordenone, Pellegrino da San Daniele, il Torretti (maestro del Canova), Domenico da Tolmezzo, il Dorigny (autore delle volte).
