Il Castello di Monguelfo o Welsperg è il complesso fortificato più antico tra Brunico e Lienz e si trova a pochi minuti a piedi dalla località di Monguelfo, in cima ad una collina soleggiata. Il castello fu fatto costruire nel 1140 dai fratelli Schwikher e Otto von Welsperg. La signoria Von Welsperg fu una stirpe nobiliare potente ed influente, sopratutto con il Barone Guidobold Von Welsberg, che ricevette il titolo di Conte da LeopoldoI . Dal castello di Monguelfo i Signori Von Welsperg amministravano un ampio feudo.
