Agrigento, Valle dei Templi, Tempio dei Dioscuri (Castore e Polluce): Il tempio di Castore e Polluce è quello che più rappresenta la sigla di Agrigento artistica. Castore e Polluce erano i gemelli nati dalla unione di Leda, la bella regina di Sparta, con Giove, mutatosi in cigno. Il tempio è rivolto ad oriente: Alcuni lo fanno risalire ad un periodo compreso fra gli anni 480 e 460 a.C., altri pensano che sia una costruzione del IV o III secolo a.C.. La sua alta piattaforma, montata su 3 gradoni estesi all'interno perimetro, misurava m. 31,12 in lunghezza e m 15,86 in larghezza, poco meno di un doppio quadrato che occupava una superficie di mq 541,14. Delle 34 colonne, che si presentavano 6 sui frontoni e 13 sui lati lunghi contando anche quelle degli angoli, soli 4 si stagliavano in mezzo a tutte quelle rovine; altre 4 colonne delimitavano la cella nei due lati corti. Sono formati da tre rocchi tufacei, con un fascio di 20 scanalature a spigolo vivo, raggiungono un'altezza di m 5,27 ed hanno un diametro di m 1,10. Il tempio mostra, inoltre, una decorazione figurativa fogliata ricca e varia. L'edificio fu, nel 1836, sgombrato dalle pietre e dalla terra da che per molti secoli lo avevano ricoperto. Villareale e Cavallari furono gli archeologi che , per ordine del Duca di Serradifalco, rilevarono la pianta del tempio ed eressero su tre gradoni, tre colonne alle quali, nel 1856, ne aggiunsero una quarta.
