La Festa di San Giovanni a Vittoria è il momento in cui tutta la città si unisce per celebrare il proprio patrono. In passato la festa si celebrava il 24 giugno, ma nei primi anni del XX secolo la festa fu spostata alla prima domenica di luglio per dare la possibilità ai contadini e ai mezzadri di prenderne parte dopo la raccolta del grano e delle fave. Festa di San Giovanni: u Viaggiu La festa in onore del Battista inizia il 23 giugno quando i devoti iniziano u Viaggiu (il viaggio), un pellegrinaggio a piedi che parte dalle città vicine a Vittoria e si conclude alle 4.30 del 24 giugno. I pellegrinaggi proseguono per tutta la giornata e toccano le diverse chiese della cittadina. La processione della domenica Il momento più importante e sentito della Festa di San Giovanni rimane la domenica pomeriggio quando il simulacro del santo attraversa la città. La processione è animata da tantissimi devoti, molti di questi si impegnano in un voto e percorrono tutto il tragitto scalzi e in preghiera. La processione viene chiusa a tarda notte da un grande spettacolo pirotecnico.festa_san_giovanni_vittoria Festa di San Giovanni a Gennaio La festa in onore del Santo patrono si celebra anche l'11 Gennaio, a ricordo del terribile terremoto che nel 1693 distrusse la Sicilia sud-orientale. Le prime scosse furono avvertite la sera del venerdì 9 gennaio e causarono gravissimi danni e centinaia di morti. La scossa più forte e spaventosa si verificò domenica 11 alle 21 quando le chiese erano piene di fedeli. Vittoria registrò pochi morti ma furono gravemente danneggiate la chiesa Madre e due conventi, quello delle Grazie e quello di San Francesco di Paola. In quell'occasione la città attribuì a San Giovanni il merito di averla salvata dal terremoto che aveva devastato le città vicine e lo elesse a suo patrono.
