Sale San Giovanni _ Benché fosse noto alla medicina antica e all'erboristeria popolare dei guaritori, l'uso moderno dell'elicriso in fitoterapia risale a poco più di 60 anni fa. A scoprirne le numerose virtù medicinali fu un medico condotto, il dottor Leonardo Santini, che operava negli anni 40 in Garfagnana. Osservando che i contadini locali curavano le malattie del bestiame coi fiori d'elicriso, decise di sperimentarlo sui suoi pazienti, ottenendo ottimi risultati nelle patologie respiratorie, sia infettive che asmatiche, ma anche in patologie della pelle come psoriasi, eczemi, dermatiti e geloni. Dopo la pubblicazione dei suoi risultati nel 1949, gli studi sulle qualità terapeutiche della pianta si sono moltiplicati e oggi l'elicriso è presente in una vasta gamma di prodotti curativi.
