Per decenni fu il punto di riferimento del gioco d'azzardo romeno e non solo, con avventori che venivano da tutta Europa a tentare la fortuna in una località che offriva diversi tipi di divertimento. Durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale il casinò venne utilizzato come ospedale e a fine conflitto fu convertito in un ristorante di lusso. Negli anni '80 subì alcuni interventi di ristrutturazione, ma dagli anni '90 fu completamente trascurato, finendo definitivamente abbandonato, con i costi di ristrutturazione che diventarono proibitivi anche per gli imprenditori più volenterosi.
