#FuocoSelettivo Cardo mariano - Silybum marianum Famiglia – Asteraceae - Descrizione: Pianta bienne, glabra e spinosa, con radice sferica spessa e ramificata, con fusto eretto, robusto, striato e ramificato nella parte superiore; durante il primo anno produce una rosetta di foglie basali, nel secondo anno sviluppa lo scapo fiorale. Altezza 30÷150 cm. Le foglie basali sono picciolate, coriacee, pennatifide, lunghe sino a 40 cm, il margine è ondulato e sinuato-lobato i lobi triangolari terminano con spine robuste; la lamina è brillante, verde scuro variegata di bianco lungo la nervatura, glabra. La parte inferiore del caule porta molte foglie, di dimensioni < e meno lobate rispetto alle terrestri, sono alterne, sessili, le superiori dentate, ovali o oblunghe, orlate di spine gialle. I fiori ermafroditi, sono riuniti in grandi capolini globosi all'apice dei fusti. Le robuste bratte dell'involucro sono glabre, dentate e spinose terminanti con un aculeo ricurvo, divengono ricuve durante la fruttificazione; le corolle tubulose sono porporine, raramente bianche. I frutti sono acheni di 5,5-7,5 mm, obovato-compressi, neri, lucidi e glabri, il pappo pluriseriato è composto da setole denticolate caduche e bianche.
