La specie ilia è simile alla specie iris, ma questa forma di Apatura ilia si caratterizza in entrambi i sessi polimorfici, per la colorazione della parte superiore delle ali (psa), che è giallo-arancio nei disegni, anzichè bianca, eccetto le macchie apicali. E' presente lungo le sponde dei corsi d'acqua ove la pianta alimentare larvale (PAL) è caratterizzata spesso dal genere Salix. In Italia è assente nel Sud. Prima osservazione personale documentata.
