Palazzo Piccolomini è detto anche Palazzo Pontificio poichè venne commissionato da Papa Pio II (Enea Piccolomini). L'edificio, considerato come uno dei primi esempi di architettura rinascimentale, fu progettato nel XV secolo da Bernardo Rossellino. Questo portone si trova nella strada che attraversa la cittadina di Pienza Corso Rossellino, mentre l'ingresso principale e' nella piazza della cattedrale, accanto al pozzo.
