Due Fratelli Vietri sul Mare Storia Leggenda ?Quando il mare di Salerno fu invaso dalle navi saracene che intendevano conquistare la città, Salerno e i suoi abitanti furono messi a dura prova dalla devastante incursione saracena che causò peste, carestie e terribili scontri fratricida che, purtroppo, non furono in grado di determinare un vincitore della guerra. I rispettivi regnanti, per far giungere a conclusione la guerra, decisero di far scontrare in duello i loro cavalieri più validi: a rappresentare Salerno scese in campo il conte Umfredo dei Landolfi, mentre per battersi dalla parte dei saraceni venne scelto il principe Rajan. Lo scontro tra i due valorosi assunse ben presto toni molto feroci al punto che i due sfidanti si spinsero oltre le mura di Salerno fino a raggiungere la spiaggia di Vietri sul Mare. Qui, stremati dopo il lungo combattimento, si appoggiarono a riposare su due scogli, ma questa pausa si rivelò per loro fatale: dovendo lottare contro la violenza del mare, ormai senza forze, i due decisero di lasciarsi andare, non prima però, di accorgersi che i loro stemmi erano identici e compresero di essere fratelli. Questo triste episodio convinse gli abitanti del posto a rinominare i due scogli come i “Due Fratelli”. Altra leggenda molto diffusa sull'origine del nome, narra di due giovani pastori che, spintisi con il loro gregge fin sulla spiaggia di Vietri, rimasero incantati dalla bellezza di una misteriosa fanciulla che dormiva in mezzo al mare. Allo scatenarsi improvviso di una tempesta, i due giovani in pena per lei si buttarono in acqua nel tentativo di trarla in salvo, ma senza successo e annegando inevitabilmente in quelle acque agitate. La fanciulla si salvò perché altri non era se non la figlia di Poseidone, dio del mare, che ammirato il coraggio e la generosità del gesto dei due giovani, decise di trasformarne i resti nei due scogli oggi noti come i “Due Fratell“
