Uno dei 4 telescopi che compongono il VLT (Very Large Telescope) presso l'osservatorio dell'ESA di Paranal in Cile. Questa struttura costituisce lo strumento ottico più avanzato al mondo. I raggi laser servono a creare una stella artificiale focalizzata a circa 90 km di altezza, in modo da compensare in tempo reale le turbolenze dell'atmosfera grazie ad attuatori che apportano correzioni in tempo reale allo specchio. Laser beams are used to create an artificial star in the atmosphere at about 90 km high, in order to compensate in real time for the turbulence of the atmosphere thanks to devices that correct the mirror in real time.
