tratto da "Fiabe buddiste": Tanto tempo fa, nell'antica India, viveva una divinità chiamata Indra. Era il dio del cielo, governava il bello e il brutto tempo, il cielo azzurro e le tempeste, i lampi, i tuoni e i venti. Grazie al sole e alla pioggia nutriva le piante e le faceva crescere, procurando cibo per gli animali e per le comunità umane. Quando scorgeva un pensiero, una parola o un gesto d'amore per gli altri, il suo cuore gioiva, e il tempo in quella regione manifestava la stessa sua serenità: un tiepido sole scaldava la terra, oppure una pioggia sottile e abbondante nutriva i raccolti. La vista della malvagità e dell'ipocrisia rendevano invece il suo cuore buio e tempestoso e riempiva i suoi occhi di lacrime, tanto da scatenare tempeste, tifoni e terremoti. Un giorno Indra era in preda alla tristezza, perché sembrava che nel mondo degli esseri umani prevalessero l'egoismo e la violenza. Chiese allora al dio Visvakarma se conosceva qualcuno la cui saggezza e compassione fossero virtù autentiche. Visvakarma raccontò allora di aver sentito parlare di un re, chiamato Sibi, il cui comportamento compassionevole rispecchiava la sua saggezza profonda. Egli non esercitava il suo potere per favorire se stesso o alcuni a scapito di altri, ma agiva per il bene di tutti gli esseri viventi. Indra decise allora di conoscerlo. Si trasformò in falco e chiese a Visvakarma di trasformarsi in un piccione dal corpo azzurro come il cielo e gli occhi rossi come rubini, per mettere alla prova la saggezza del re. Pose quindi l'uccello su un piatto della bilancia e la sua carne sull'altro, ma il piccione pesava di più. Indra gli disse allora: «O re, hai sofferto abbastanza.
