Il fornaio rossiccio vive nella fascia centrale dell'America Meridionale, dalla Bolivia all'Argentina, e frequenta per lo più zone alberate e pascoli; non è difficile incontrarlo anche nei pressi degli insediamenti umani. Il piumaggio si presenta castano sul dorso, più chiaro sul ventre e leggermente più scuro sul capo. Le zampe sono lunghe e forti, e la coda è piuttosto corta. Di abitudini terricole, il fornaio rossiccio si nutre di insetti. Il suo canto, udibile tutto l'anno, è simile a un trillo di campanello. Maschio e femmina usano inscenare veri e propri duetti posizionandosi l'uno di fronte all'altra con il collo teso, la coda spiegata e le ali distese lungo i fianchi. La scelta del luogo in cui costruire il nido e il trasporto del materiale spettano a entrambi i genitori, così come la cova e la cura della prole. Tra settembre e dicembre la femmina depone 2-4 uova, che si schiudono dopo 14-18 giorni di incubazione. Dopo 21-26 giorni i piccoli lasciano il nido, ma non si allontanano dal territorio dei genitori per circa 6 mesi. (Fonte www.sapere.it)
