Molto interessante come documento botanico MrGreen
ciao erica

Never seen, neither in person nor ... in magazines. It reminds me of those "invertebrates" marine shapes and colors are ;-) Can you tell us where you photographed and the season? Very interesting as a document Botanical:-D

L'ho fotografato in Kenya, in agosto.

I photographed in Kenya, in August. It 'huge, I would say at least 30 cm. in diameter, looking particularly meaty. It was a long driveway to a lodge in the shade. I is not never happened, in the following travel, to see him.

I would say it is definitely (99.9%) a flower of a family of succulent plants called Caralluma (do not ask me where ...), there are several species common in rocky and dry between Tanzania and Kenya and most spectacular species as well as the one you've photographed you, I would say that there are no easily but are also sold in Italy.

@ Memy: always useful in your path ... I went to see me in the pictures on the internet Caralluma and I agree with you. This is certainly the case, although I have not found anything so "powerful" between the images shown. Among the other images is also to quell'infiorescenza black ball, very beautiful and much more common, I photographed often and that gives off a nauseating smell.

This succulent plant have it in my mother's garden.
Unfortunately, when it flowered I was not there so I will have to wait for the next flowering.
I hope to come up with something good
