Firenze, Piazza Santa Croce ... marzo 2019 ... Una sera di marzo dinanzi a Santa Croce, il Tempio dell'Itale Glorie come la definì il Foscolo in un passo dei suoi Sepolcri ... Michelangelo Buonarroti, Galileo Galilei, Niccolò Machiavelli, Vittorio Alfieri, Gioacchino Rossini e lo stesso Ugo Foscolo sono i nomi più illustri fra i tanti artisti, scienziati e celebrità che han trovato sepoltura entro le mura della Basilica! ... Santa Croce è simbolo nobile e prestigioso della potenza e della ricchezza della Firenze di un tempo ... Nel corso dell'Ottocento la sua fama di Pantheon dell'arte, di custode solenne dell'"urne dei forti", si diffuse così rapidamente che lo stesso Granduca si vide costretto a nominare ed a presiedere una commissione apposita per esaminare le richieste di sepoltura.
