Costruita nel 1837 in marmo di Carrara da Tito Angelini, la fontana rappresenta figurativamente il fiume come un giovane che, da una cornucopia, versa l'acqua in una vasca a calice baccellato, alla base della quale due tritoni riversano a loro volta l'acqua nel canale percorso dal fiume Amenano in questo tratto visibile. I catanesi chiamano questa fontana “acqua a linzolu” perché l'acqua della fontana versandosi come una piccola cascata nel fiume produce un suggestivo e caratteristico effetto “lenzuolo” e anche perché in passato da questo canale le popolane lavavano la loro biancheria nel fiume.
