Le prime testimonianze riguardanti l'organo della Cattedrale di Genova risalgono al 1391. Di seguito viene riassunta la storia dello strumento della Cattedrale di S. Lorenzo mediante date significative nell'evoluzione dell'organo sino alla sua configurazione attuale (4795 canne). 1554 - Strumento costruito da G.B. Facchetti di Brescia nel transetto sinistro ('in cornu Evangeli'), con cassa realizzata da G. Forlani. 1603 - Strumento costruito da G. Vittani di Pavia nel transetto destro ('in cornu Epistolae' ). Le ante dei due organi sono dipinte da G.Benso nel 1634/55 (organo di sinistra) e da A. Ansaldo nel 1635 (organo di destra). Sui parapetti delle cantorie con al centro lo stemma della Repubblica di Genova, angeli musicanti realizzati nel 1654/55 da G.B. Ferrandino e T. Orsolino. 1866 - L'organaro C.G. Bianchi di Novi Ligure costruisce l'organo del coro. 1890/91 - C.G. Bianchi e D. Tagliafico costruiscono un nuovo organo a 2 tastiere da collocare nella cassa del transetto sinistro. 1933/36 - La ditta 'Parodi & Marin'di Genova costruisce un nuovo organo a 4 tastiere utilizzando anche il materiale fonico preesistente. 1992 - L'organo Bianchi del coro viene trasferito nel transetto destro. 2003/05 - Lo strumento viene interamente restaurato-ricostruito dalla ditta 'Fratelli Marin' di Genova ed inaugurato il 15 ottobre 2005 da Olivier Latry, organista titolare della Cattedrale di Notre Dame di Parigi.(cit. http://www.chiesadigenova.it) #chiese #Churches
