Gaiole in Chianti, Siena ... gennaio 2019 ... L'abbazia di San Lorenzo a Coltibuono, comunemente nota come Badia a Coltibuono, risale all'anno 1049; edificata dalla nobile e ricca famiglia dei Firidolfi venne donata dopo alcuni anni dalla sua ultimazione a San Giovanni Gualberto, fondatore della Congregazione monastica Vallombrosana ed il cui possesso è certificato da una bolla papale del 1115. Diverse ed alterne vicende, talune persino rocambolesche, hanno accompagnato la Badia nel corso dei secoli fino al 29 settembre 1810, data che segna la soppressione dell'istituto abbaziale e la conseguente vendita a privati. Nel 1816 l'allora proprietario Giovanni Calamai, assediato dai creditori per certe speculazioni edilizie non propriamente proficue, istituì una sorta di lotteria i cui premi erano costituiti dai beni fondiari dello stesso e, tra questi, figurava la Badia di Coltibuono valutata ben 98.000 scudi! L'intero complesso monastico sorge non lontano dalla linea di crinale dei Monti del Chianti, immerso nel verde cupo e rilassante di grandi boschi di abete bianco, frutto dell'attività silvestre degli operosi monaci ...
