Praia da Ursa, distante poche centinaia di metri da Cabo da Roca, nel comune di Sintra, è considerata la spiaggia più occidentale dell'Europa continentale. Il suo nome è dovuto all'enorme pietra a forma di Ursa nell'atto di guardare il cielo, fianco a fianco di un'altra formazione rocciosa di nome Gigante, e tutto deriva dalla leggenda della spiaggia di Ursa. La leggenda narra che nell'era glaciale vivesse un'orsa con i suoi piccoli e quando iniziò il disgelo, gli dei dissero a tutti gli animali di fuggire dalle zone costiere. Ma l'orsa non voleva obbedire agli ordini degli dei e lì voleva stare con i suoi figli perchè era nata là e là voleva vivere.
