Beautiful and well taken up; A handsome specimen of male, I think; Where I live now obviously these beetles are not there, since we only have coniferous trees (and after the end of October there are few left too)

I photographed this dorcus in the province of Lecco on the north side of Mount Barro where there are woods of ash and beech. Rightly as noted by Daniele F. Does not live in coniferous forests. In my experience I have encountered this species always sporadical, on the ground or under partially decomposed trunks, which is then what it feeds into the larval stage. The image was obtained with the method of Focus Stacking. With a simple shot I would not have reached the same definition and depth of field.
