NGC2237, "The rose on the branch" The Rosetta nebula, a very active star-forming region 5200 light years away, is a classic of winter nights. The beautiful and cold evening of yesterday, January 7th, I wanted to take it back in a rather unusual way, in search of the nebulosity that surrounds it. So the large field of the Canon 6d Baader applied to the Canon 400mm 2.8 allowed me to place it in a slightly off-centered position to also appreciate the peripheral nebulous regions in which it is immersed. The processing, performed with DSS and Photoshop, was rather complicated due to the numerous light gradients caused by the pollution that characterizes the location from which I photographed, Montecassiano (MC - ITALY). Average of 17 RGB poses from 4 minutes to 800 ISO with IDAS D1 filter plus 6 poses from 8 minutes to 3200 iso with Hn-alpha filter 12nm Astronomik, so about 2 hours of total integration.

When I use the 400 2.8 is enough the GP vixen, for heavier optics I also have a EQ6 SS.

Beautiful! A question maybe stupid, since I do not know much about astrophotography: The 6d is able to withstand poses so long without heating too much? I have read on various forums that we recommend the use of a cooled camera, in these cases.

Thank you! Theoretically the heat slowly translates into a signal (so noise), but fortunately the winter nights come to help, the problem is noticed more in the summer. However, cooled SLR cameras are always preferable, but they become very specific for astronomical use.

A masterpiece, I do not understand why a wonderful photo like this has not collected many other ratings. For me we are like likes at least an order of magnitude below.
Compliments your shots of astronomy are majestic.

Thanks Arci, probably not everyone realizes how complicated it is to get a similar result, however I just need to know that someone understands it! ;-)
