La ghiandaia e il suo maglione che non scolorisce mai. Da piccolo, osservando le ghiandaie, mi chiedevo come mai quel meraviglioso piumaggio non sbiadisse nel corso degli anni, esposto al sole, al freddo e alle piogge battenti, quando invece, i miei vestiti, a riposo nel caldo di un comodino, dopo poco apparivano comunque lisi e di diverso colore. Mi ha meravigliato poi scoprire, che alcune sfumature del colore del piumaggio degli uccelli, non sono date da un pigmento, ma dalla “spugnosità” della cheratina da cui sono composte le piume. I microscopici fori sulle barbe delle piume, a seconda della loro struttura e composizione, assorbono diversamente la luce, ritornando al nostro occhio quei meravigliosi colori variopinti… che non scoloriscono mai!
