Quando si parla di Perù la mente vola immediatamente al popolo Inca, a Machu Pichu, a Paracas, a Cusco, a Nazca etc. Esiste però un Perù, altrettanto bello, tutt'oggi molto poco conosciuto, ricco di storia e di bellezze naturali: il NORD Dopo aver postato uno scatto dei “ Sarcofagi di Carjilla”, oggi voglio postare tre scatti del sito archeologico di Kuelap. La fortezza di Kuelap è un'affascinante e oscura costruzione situata nel nord del Perù, nella regione amazzonica di Chachapoyas. Si erge su una ripida collina sovrastante la valle di Utcubamba, a oltre 3.000 metri sul livello del mare. Protette da alte mura nel sito si trovano oltre 400 costruzioni in pietra, la maggior parte a forma circolare ( oggi rimangono solo le fondamenta e parte delle mura). Alcune pareti presentano fregi di forme romboidali e a zig-zag, protette dalla pioggia da cornici. Fondata dai Chachapoyas nel VI° secolo a.C., la fortezza di Kuelap è stata scoperta solo in tempi relativamente recenti. Le prime testimonianze dell'esistenza della fortezza risalgono al 1843 grazie alle ricerche di Juan Crisostomo Nieto, giudice dell'area. Nei decenni successivi numerosi esploratori peruviani e stranieri si avventurarono nell'area contribuendo progressivamente alla celebrità di Kuelap: tra questi il geografo italiano Antonio Raimondi . Secondo gli esperti, Kuelap rappresenta il sito archeologico più complesso e imponente finora scoperto in tutto il Sud America.
