Situato a circa 2 km dal lago Hoam Kiem, il Tempio della Letteratura è un luogo molto interessante da visitare perché costituisce un raro esempio di architettura tradizionale vietnamita. Il Tempio fu costruito nel 1070 per volere dell'imperatore Ly Thanh Tong che lo dedicò a Confucio, nell'intento di rendere omaggio a eruditi e letterati. Nel 1076 divenne sede della prima università del Vietnam che istruiva i figli dei mandarini e tale rimase fino al 1802, quando l'imperatore Gia Long decise di trasferire l'Università Nazionale ad Hué, la nuova capitale.
