Le piene del Po oggi fortunatamente non fanno più danni come in passato e creano solo un po' di scompiglio nelle golene , da quei tempi sono stati fatti molti lavori sugli argini soprattutto lì nella zona del Polesine dove ruppe nel '51.
In certi punti ed in certi periodi dell'anno la massa d'acqua che corre verso il mare é veramente enorme, una forza gigantesca ed inarrestabile e se magari non spaventa più come allora io rimango comunque impressionato.
Uno spettacolo che mi affascina ed al contempo mi mette soggezione fin da bambino (sono di Ferrara), quando mio padre mi portava a vedere il Grande Fiume e mi raccontava storie di soldati tedeschi in ritirata morti annegati nel tentativo di attraversarlo, di esondazioni disastrose e di come la gente con forza e dignità si è rimboccata le maniche ed ha ricostruito ciò che le acque si erano portate via ...

Non riesco a guardare questi eventi con occhi diversi; sono tanti i ricordi che ritornano alla mente soprattutto quelli legati alla figura di mio padre ... perciò é così che io vedo questo paesaggio ed è così che lo dipingerei se fossi un pittore.
