Well, I have to tell you that I have just returned from Burma, and on Lake Inle, I did not seem at all to be "paid" to put on stage. Moreover, in navigation, we have found many, that have not even calculated.

Thanks to all the comments.
for Banjo I just say that, in my travel experience I met some really sincere and spontaneous scenes but that the Burmese figures are too conviously rare to be credible: think of the extent of the lake; over that morning (4 hours of outing) , in which I scoured everything, far and wide, with the Nassa I met only this and a little more in there another that paddled with the feet (other type of figure) and until just before the tour guide seemed thoughtful and frightened that no one had gone to make the SCE Na.
this with the Nassa also showed us a nice fish and we got photographed...
then go to see the Country tab, every where the same faces; I even recognized the same old smoker at a distance of 5 years photographed by another traveller :-o

But you mean they take the "commission" from the travel agency :-o?

In Rome those dressed as a Roman centurion I think they do it on their own, but there I would say yes.
A craft like any other, like the hostess I found in the Asahi beer factory in Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan, which welcome visiting tourists ;-)
