Nei mercatini presenti sulle strade di Mombasa, nei piccoli negozi posti all'interno dei villaggi o anche ai confini delle spiagge, è possibile acquistare deliziosi oggetti in legno che raffigurano animali della Savana, pesci e paesaggi africani. Vengono tutti intagliati e dipinti a mano e per la loro realizzazione viene utilizzato legno di pregio. Oggetti in legno raffiguranti tartarughe marine, elefanti, ippopotami e giraffe sono tra i più apprezzati, anche perché vengono venduti a costi estremamente limitati. E' importante sapere che l'"arte" della contrattazione da parte della popolazione non deve essere interpretata come atto di maleducazione ma come puro divertimento.
