Credo che la soluzione sarebbe stata "aprire" un po' di più le ombre (puoi farlo semplicemente con molti programmi di fotoritocco), o, forse meglio, correggere il contrasto soltanto nella parte di immagine che ti interessa, senza andare ad annerire completamente le parti che sono già in ombra.
