IL MOSE' DI MICHELANGELO Dal 1545, nel transetto di destra, della chiesa DI San Pietro in Vincoli nel quartiere romano di Monti, si può ammirare uno dei capolavori dell'arte cinquecentesca, il Mosè di Michelangelo. La colossale statua, scolpita nel 1513 per ornare il monumento funebre che Giulio II aveva commissionato al Buonarroti, fu completata solo alla morte del papa che è sepolto nella basilica di San Pietro in Vaticano. L'opera che ha preso a modello Raffaello e Donatello, ritrae un maestoso Mosè seduto, con le Tavole della Legge sotto il braccio, mentre con l'altra mano accarezza la sua lunga barba, che secondo il Vasari fu scolpita con una perfezione tale da sembrare più “opera di pennello che di scalpello”. Il momento rappresentato da Michelangelo è quello successivo alla consegna dei Comandamenti sul monte Sinai, quando Mosè trova gli israeliti intenti a venerare un vitello d'oro, segno di adorazione di altri dei. Mosè è irato e sembra sul punto di alzarsi e distruggere tutto. Una rabbia perfettamente espressa dalle vene gonfie e i muscoli in tensione che sembrano dar vita al marmo. Curiosità A causa dei dissapori tra il Papa e Michelangelo, l'opera destinata alla Basilica di San Pietro, fu collocata a San Pietro in Vincoli. Giulio II infatti era completamente assorbito dalla ricostruzione di San Pietro e aveva accantonato l'idea del mausoleo. Le corna sul capo del Mosè deriverebbero da un'errata traduzione del Libro dell'Esodo in cui si narra che Mosè, mentre scendeva dal Sinai, aveva due raggi sulla fronte. L'ebraico "karan" o "karnaim" - "raggi" - potrebbe essere stato confuso con "keren" - "corna". Critiche e commenti sempre molto graditi. Grazie.
