Stefano wanted to know if you have cropped the picture ... the borg 100 to f4 are the focal length of 400mm becoming 640mm (compared to full-frame) this seems to be made with a focal length of 1 meter is still :-)
beautiful ......

Stephen, the depth of the image is fabulous! Did you get any sort of haze, congratulations! I am waiting for a new moon night also good to get back to work on the M42, because my images made so far are only tests, the M42 essenso the obvious subject for testing instruments and cameras. The recovery of colors is good, sistemerei only the yellow a bit 'abnormal those two stars at the bottom of the image. The only thing that disappoints me a bit 'in the midst of all this beauty is the lack of detail, I do not know what comes, perhaps a reduction in the noise a bit' too much boost or a slight kneading due to the effects of seeing? Or the filter? (I do not know, never having used because it usually does not release from the city).

a greeting and congratulations again

Clear

To recover from a big city, a miracle! Those outside areas are very weak and only a few years astrophotographers can remove them so well. I am not surprised that you had problems with colors, then the filter is really difficult to manage.
Definitely try under a really dark sky and you will be something incredible. In this case, careful that the spurs are mainly external to me only in H-alpha and then red and less brown typical of dust.

Thank you all for your comments and advice.

The photo is cropped just a little bit to the extreme edges of the field ... 400 of aps-c is in the picture.

For the colors I followed the advice of astrokiara and lorenzo and-if you want-you can see the new version in the gallery Astrophotography II in my profile.

Difficult to interpret the colors of m42. Just look at the differences between that of Robert Gendler Rogelio Bernal Andreo and that of.

I do not get a tube of astrophotography and then what you're saying in the first post, for me and 'Arab .. but the picture has a great hypnotic charm ..
I do not know and what you've photographed, but just the idea that something is watching us from up there 'light years away, I love it!

Holy words, but a great way to have realistic colors is to use a DSLR with solar balance. Rarely wrong. Gendler that RBA is working with filters and the balance they do in a more complex way. From email exchanges with their prized shooting dslr for this reason. And then they are artists, mythical or mythological beings, can not just not say anything! :-D:-D

Gia 'Lorenzo ;-)

The UHC filter is tough to handle in post. I'll try to take it to well up from fork in December

Ps
Thanks for the info on the balance of solar-P

Gendler uses CCD full-frame high dynamic as the STL 11000 and it seems to me that resume in full color and with optical instruments with the cons .... that the comparison d40 (even if prepared) have no terms of comparison .. great nice shot:-D

Depends Canopus. Certainly not compare it with those of my gendler or rogelio. There was talk of colors deep.

However, if I take those of the legendary Ivan Eder I do not see all these differences.

The CCD, in my opinion, make sense if you shoot from a fixed location because the simplicity of reflex saves so much time for us amateurs and-homeless-time is precious.
Focus, take hours of luminance and down with more hours for individual channels ... things to the desert, where you have all the clear nights you want, not for a country like Italy, where every night is different from other .
