5 Torri 12 agosto 2018 - I Kaiserjäger o K.u.k. Kaiserjäger (cacciatori imperiali) austriaci erano un reparto di fanteria leggera dell'esercito imperiale austriaco prima ed austro ungarico poi, reclutati nei territori alpini dell'impero, in particolare nella Contea del Tirolo, che comprendeva i territori dell'odierno Tirolo settentrionale e occidentale austriaci, dell'Alto Adige, del Trentino (Südtirol o Tirolo meridionale) e di parte della provincia di Belluno. La particolare denominazione, che li differenziava dai comuni reparti di Jäger, derivava dalla particolare fedeltà, sempre manifestata dalla popolazione tirolese alla figura dell'imperatore, per cui erano considerati, in uno stato che non ha mai avuto una guardia del corpo combattente, il vero reparto a difesa della persona del sovrano. Contrariamente a quanto si crede, inizialmente i Kaiserjäger non erano un reparto specializzato nella guerra in montagna, ma erano solo un'unità d'élite della fanteria austro-ungarica, basato su truppe tirolesi. In seguito il Kaiserjäger divenne il simbolo delle truppe austriache sul fronte alpino.
