Santa Sofia (meglio chiamarla La Divina Sapienza perchè "sofìa" in greco antico significava appunto "sapienza", perciò non esiste una santa di nome Sofia !) è stata chiesa bizantina (Haghia Sofia), poi Maometto II il conquistatore di Costantinopoli (chiamata quindi Istanbul) la trasformò in moschea e Sinan, il più grande architetto turco, vi aggiunse quattro minareti. Successivamente Ataturk la dichiarò museo, per cui tutti i mosaici cristiani che erano stati ricoperti dai Turchi, sono stati ripristinati ed ora sono visibili. L'unico mosaico non visibile è quello della volta della cupola perchè rappresenta il Cristo Pantocratore ed era evidentemente "troppo cristiano" perchè si potesse esporre. La Moschea Bluè stata edificata dai Turchi ad imitazione di S. Sofia, come la più grande, la Moschea di Solimano. Santa Sofia impressionò tanto i Turchi che tutte le loro moschee sono state fatte prendendo a modello appunto Santa Sofia (Aya Sofia in turco). |
