La Torre "OPPIDIUM ANGARIUM" di Angri fu data alle fiamme da Braccio da Montone nel 1421 durante la guerra tra il re Luigi III d'Angio e i re Alfonso d'Aragona. Importante nodo di comunicazione, faceva parte della potente maglia militare, realizzata a difesa della Real Valle Angioina. La torre maggiore del castello "il Mastio", è certamente la parte più antica dell'intero edificio. Essa potrebbe infatti risalire all'epoca romana e ciò si può desumere sia dal vario materiale di risulta di piccole dimensioni, e sia dal materiale alluvionale di superficie, nel quale predomina la pietra locale, il tufo duro e dolce, cocci di cotto, la selce e la sarnide; materiali mestamente connessi non ad opus reticulatum romanum, ma cementati con abbondanza di calce senza malta di copertura all'esterno, trattandosi infatti di un'opera di guerra (opus militare); sia poi dalla imponente forma architettonica ampia, circolare ed altissima, tipica delle torri romane, suddivisa all'interno in più piani. Nel XVII per volontà del principe Marcantonio Doria, si ebbe una radicale trasformazione del castello. Infatti fu svecchiato ed alleggerito dalle possenti strutture del primitivo aspetto di severo maniero medievale; illeggiadrito dalla bella costruzione del corpo avanzato frontale, su cui spazia l';ampia terrazza, là dove un tempo si apriva il verone maggiore di transetto tra le due torri terminali di ponente, fu adeguato in altezza alla torre maggiore e adattato principalmente a comoda dimora principesca. Dall'oscuro chiostro, si accedeva alla sala Castri, alla sala del castello dell'utile Signore della Terra, e alle sedi del capitano governatore e del castellano; fedele custode della fortezza e delle carceri. Il vecchio, severo chiostro adattato a grandioso atrio, fu sbarrato a mezzogiorno, da un artistico cancello di ferro su cui troneggia l'aquila bicipite dei Doria. Nello spiazzo dell'atrio molte strutture medievali, furono abolite o ritrasformate come il profondo pozzo e gli abbeveratoi dei cavalli; ricostruiti in pietra arenaria dolce. Infissi nei muri, penzolano ancora gli anelli di ferro che servivano a legare i cavalli e si possono ancora notare, i poggetti in arenaria, che facilitavano la salita e la discesa delle dame dai cavalli. Dal piano dell'atrio, per una monumentale scala che si apre ad ali di falco, si accede alla torre maggiore e al piano nobile del castello. Lo splendido palazzo settecentesco dei Doria, fu progettato dall'architetto Francesconi. Nel 1908 l';amministrazione comunale, presieduta dal sindaco Adinolfi, lo acquista con l'annesso parco dagli eredi dei Doria, per novantamila lire; adibendolo a Municipio e Foto scattata con Samsung Galaxia J5
