Hi Carlo, no I did not desaturate. There are 4 factors involved.
a) The background terrain is naturally uni-formally grey.
b) As the subjects colors are extremely vivid, this makes the grey look even more dull/flat.
c) The 500mm prime lens has an extremely narrow depth of field at that shutter speed of 1/3200 even at F7.1
d) The image was run through the moderate preset of Topaz de-noise.
