This is a 55 shot focus stack of a Black Ground Beetle's (Pterostichus sp) head. The background is a red/pink leaf, this scene has a mixture of natural and artificial light. This image is most definitely of a dead/deceased Beetle (that I found already dead on the ground)........I would never catch and kill an insect just for a photo, but it is a question often asked about these large stacks ;) I used my 5D2, with a reversed nikkor 50mm, plus focusing rail, work bench, plamps, lights, reflectors...loads of stuff LOL ..........So this is a shot of a dead insect taken under artificial conditions.....so it is what it is ;) Thanks for looking, cheers! :)
