L'Abbazia (o anche "abazia") di S.Pietro in Breme fu fondata dai Benedettini nel X secolo. I monaci erano qui giunti dalla Novalesa (TO) per sfuggire alle incursioni saracene. Della struttura originaria è ancora visitabile la cripta mentre l'edificio attuale è dovuto ai monaci Olivetani che qui vi giunsero nel XVI secolo.
