Sicilia, entroterra, borgo Schirò. Un luogo abbandonato, attraversato da una strada di campagna, tetro, buio. Buio pesto. A stento al nostro arrivo si intravedono le sagome di quegli edifici fatiscenti, dalle finestre nere, da dove ci si sente osservati maliziosamente. Ero già stato lì, da solo, ma di giorno, alla luce del sole. Era già macabro quella volta, ma adesso...adesso è infinitamente peggio, più di quanto mi aspettassi. Come se non bastasse il cielo è coperto e della via lattea nemmeno l'ombra, quindi ci scoraggiamo ulteriormente. Ma nonostante tutto afferriamo un paio di torce e iniziamo comunque a scattare. Scatto dopo scatto prendiamo confidenza col luogo, interrotti di tanto in tanto da un rumore sinistro, dalle paure più intime e irrazionali... ma in un attimo il cielo si apre e le stelle fanno capolino. Nel giro di venti minuti ci ritroviamo con le teste completamente coperte di puntini luminosi, le sagome nere del cemento attorno a noi si fanno leggermente più pallide. Ed è allora che ci dimentichiamo di tutto e scattiamo, eccitati, fino all'alba, per ore. Alla fine ti poni una domanda: ne valeva la pena? Quelle ore di macchina, la fatica, il coraggio trovato, la pazienza, il timore del buio. Alla fine, quando torni a casa e riesci a sfornare immagini come questa ti rispondi. "Si, ne valeva la pena".
