Fu voluta nel 1614, sotto gli auspici del vescovo di Novara, Venerabile Carlo Bascape, e venne finanziata dal nobile cavaliere pavese Agostino Beccaria e dalle offerte dei pellegrini. Il portale di bronzo È tra i capolavori che maggiormente si ammirano appena giunti alle soglie della Basilica. I vari pannelli che gli danno risalto rappresentano alcuni episodi della Sacra Scrittura simbolicamente riferentisi alla Madonna. A Lei infatti e' dedicata la Basilica. Fu disegnata dall'arch. Giovanni Cerutì. Lo modellò Leone Antonini di Vocca, e lo fuse Giovanni Lomazzi di Milano. Realizzata a poco a poco su disegni di Bartolomeo Ravelli e di Giovanni d'Enrico (1614), fu terminata nel 1713 con una facciata di linee molto semplici. La facciata attuale è sorta negli anni 1891-1896 per h munificenza dei coniugi Costantino e Giulia Durio e su disegno dell'arch. Giovanni Ceruti di Valduggia. Il portale di bronzo È tra i capolavori che maggiormente si ammirano appena giunti alle soglie della Basilica. I vari pannelli che gli danno risalto rappresentano alcuni episodi della Sacra Scrittura simbolicamente riferentisi alla Madonna. A Lei infatti e' dedicata la Basilica. Fu disegnata dall'arch.
