Picchio del Cile (Colaptes Pitius) nel parco del Torres del Paine, Cile. Leggero crop per composizione. C'è una storia buffa dietro questo scatto; negli ultimi giorni del mio viaggio in Cile mi sono dedicato completamente alla ricerca del bellissimo e fugace puma, e dopo un po' di studio e suggerimenti avevo trovato un percorso dove c'erano buone probabilità di trovarlo, essendo sul posto agli orari giusti. Previsioni che si sono rivelate poi sbagliate, in quanto non ho mai visto mezzo puma su quel percorso (anche assai lungo..) ma la natura non mi ha lasciato a “bocca asciutta”; ho visto condor, falchi di ogni tipo, puzzole, volpi, guanaco e per finire anche questo simpatico picchio! Era un tracciato fuori dalle rotte più turistiche e ci passavano davvero poche persone al giorno (almeno quando c'ero io); la prima volta che ho incontrato questo esemplare ero davvero felicissimo, si è fatto fotografare per tutti i versi e con cautela sono riuscito ad avvicinarmi bene anche per fargli questa foto. Tra me e me pensavo “cavolo, almeno sono riuscito a vedere qualcosa, ho avuto fortuna via”; poi ci ripasso il solito giorno al tramonto.. E il picchio era sempre li che svolazzava tra quei paletti e gli arbusti vicini; la mattina dopo… La stessa scena, e così via per tutte le 7 volte che ho fatto quel percorso! Per curiosità sono rimasto lì a vedere i suoi spostamenti e semplicemente aveva fatto il nido in degli arbusti bassi a due passi da questa vecchia recinzione, che costeggiava il percorso.. Quindi diciamo che ogni volta era lì perchè gli passavo accanto a casa! Le ultime volte sembrava che mi aspettasse, mi faceva qualche fischietto, mi guardava passare e tornava al nido!
