Progettato dagli architetti Francesco Clerici e Vittorio Faglia laddove era presente uno dei giardini formali attigui alla residenza, il roseto della Villa Reale di Monza presenta un laghetto e incantevoli percorsi tra gli esemplari della collezione. Il roseto della Villa Reale di Monza, fu creato per volontà di Niso Fumagalli, industriale e presidente della Candy, nonché grande appassionato di floricoltura, con una predilezione per le rose. Dopo numerosi viaggi in Francia, Belgio, Olanda e Inghilterra, dove i concorsi promossi dalle associazioni di categoria erano seguiti con interesse anche dal grande pubblico, nel 1964 decise di fondare l'Associazione Italiana della Rosa proprio a Monza. I primi concorsi si tennero nel 1965, quando i lavori non erano ancora ultimati, e negli anni successivi si ebbero alcune madrine d'eccezione, tra le quali la principessa Grace di Monaco, nel 1970, e il premio Nobel Rita Levi Montalcini, nel 1991. L'impianto prevede differenti sezioni tematiche, a seconda delle collezioni di rose piantumate, con alcune varietà antiche disposte attorno allo specchio d'acqua, o rampicanti, lungo la cancellata e sul pergolato. La maggior parte dello spazio è in ogni caso destinato alle rose che partecipano ai Concorsi annuali, con oltre 4.000 varietà, create da rosaisti di tutto il mondo e giudicate da tecnici internazionali, poeti, artisti e personalità della moda o della televisione.
