Il castello di Torrechiara è il più famoso fra le rocche e i fortilizi che facevano parte del feudo di Pier Maria Rossi, conte di San Secondo e grande condottiero, il quale pose mano al loro rinnovamento nel XV secolo. Qui, al termine delle sue imprese guerresche, si ritirò a vivere insieme a Bianca Pellegrini da Como, che per amor suo aveva lasciato il marito, Melchiorre d'Arluno.
