3413/10.05.18 Tra le innumerevoli storie legate a S.Francesco, le credenze popolari annoverano questa straordinaria pianta di Faggio, soprannominata"Faggio di S.Francesco" che vegeta sulle pendici del monte Fausola a circa 1123 mt di quota in località Cepparo nel comune di Rivodutri in provincia di Rieti. La inusuale forma di questo faggio (Ne esistono solo 3 nel mondo!) sembra risalga alla disavventura di Francesco che per ripararsi da un tremendo temporale, scelse questo faggio il quale per miracolo allargò e piegò i suoi rami in modo da ripararlo meglio. Le due foto successive mostrano meglio l'andamento dei rami che anziché rivolgersi verso l'alto proseguono verso il basso quasi paralleli al terreno sottostante. Le dimensioni dell'albero sono notevoli:raggiunge 8mt di altezza e la circonferenza della ceppaia é di circa 4mt. L'età oscilla tra i 200 e i 250 anni. Se potete andarci, lo spettacolo é assicurato!!
