Messier 101 detta galassia girandola è uno degli oggetti più maestosi e appariscenti del cielo. Si presenta totalmente in pianta così che è possibile ammirarne lo sviluppo intricato dei bracci. Visibile nella costellazione dell'Orsa Maggiore, è una galassia a spirale distante da noi circa 19mil. di al. E' ricca di zone di emissione di Idrogeno che si evidenziano nel classico colore rosso/viola. Inoltre la forma leggermente deformata dei bracci, probabilmente è dovuta a qualche antica interazione con altre galassie. Ripresa in condizioni di seeing e trasparenza non ottimali che ne hanno compromesso anche la precisione di guida. Usually I take pictures of things I can SEE, but M 101 I can't see even through my 90/600 triplet refractor. I have tried 101 with very mediocre results (https://www.flickr.com/photos/42162009@N04/39850065080/in/album-72157689680624130/), so naturally I am impressed, and just a little envious! :-)
