Uscito da Dryandra guido attraverso splendide strade secondarie interne in un panorama di campagna che potrebbe essere tranquillamente nostro. Campi coltivati a grano e colza, soprattutto. Pecore al pascolo. La strada avanza tra due file di alberi. L'occhio però coglie particolari che rendono 'alieno' ciò che percepisce. Le dimensioni sono inimmaginabili per i nostri piccoli spazi. Le macchie gialle della colza fiorita sono immense. Le pecore migliaia. Quando la strada mi porta leggermente in alto, posso spingere la vista a varie decine di chilometri, ma i contenuti non cambiano. Gli alberi che fiancheggiano la strada non assomigliano affatto ai nostri, sono varie specie di eucalipti, alcuni magnificamente annegati nelle macchie di giallo. Il cielo riccamente annuvolato contribuisce a creare un gioco di colori che non posso non fermarmi a fotografare. Nella visione europea l'eucalipto è considerato un albero minore, ma qui ne esistono molte varietà che hanno delle differenze sostanziali con quello che ci è familiare. Un tipo, tra quelli che fiancheggiano la strada, altissimo, con la sua chioma larga ad ombrello, unica parte dotata di foglie, ricorda visivamente i pini marittimi ed è francamente spettacolare.
