You might think that this elderly couple were asleep in the Spring sunshine, at the English West Sussex seaside town of Selsey, yesterday.

But having walked past in front of them, on the path, his eyes were fixed wide open, holding his wife (?) so tightly, that no wind, no sea, nothing could ever separate them. Perhaps she has cancer and this was their first chance to enjoy the outdoor views out to the calm, quiet seas.

I had such total respect for their privacy that I could not shoot them from the front. Whilst Easter holiday families enjoyed the pebbled beach, it was such a pleasure to see it all. So, I got a couple of quick shots from behind, this being the widest. I was the only photographer, proper, (not smartphone) so I was quite obvious.

I had to straighten, remove a wall on the left and then cropped slightly. I purposefully left plenty of space above the couple's head, as well as lighten their dark shadows.
