All'interno delle Lookout Mountain nei pressi di Chattanooga, si trova questo complesso di grotte scoperto agli inizi del secolo. La caverna principale era stata scoperta e poi chiusa durante la costruzione di una linea ferroviaria. Restò cosi chiusa per molti anni fino al giorno in cui tale Leo Lambert decise di riaprirla per farne un attrazione turistica. Con un consorzio di amici acquistò dei terreni al di sopra delle caverne, dove aveva pensato di realizzare un ascensore per agevolare la visita a quanti le volessero visitare. Durante la perforazione per il posizionamento di questo ascensore una piccola parete si ruppe, e da un foro di pochi centimetri scopri l'esistenza di di un secondo complesso di gallerie che si inoltrava in cunicoli mai visti prima... vi si inoltrò per tre giorni prima di arrivare alla grande caverna che ospita questa bellissima cascata di ben 44 metri. Tornato alla luce del sole ne fece un omaggio alla moglie battezzandole con il suo nome... e nacquero cosi le Ruby Falls...!!! Vi si accede ancora tramite un ascensore che scende per circa 350 metri al di sotto della montagna, da cui si snoda un lungo percorso di una ventina di minuti circa facilmente accessibile, tra alcune formazioni dalle forme e dai nomi molto caratteristici... ma tutto sommato non molto spettacolari... per poi giungere all'ampia cavità che ospita la Ruby Falls che è sicuramente un gran bello spettacolo...!!! Il resto delle caverne originalmente scoperto dopo breve tempo venne chiuso al publico, dato che la principale attrazione divenne ovviamente la cascata... Ora vendono usate come uscita di emergenza in caso di guasti all'ascensore e durante la notte di hallowen per un party sotterraneo.
