Minus 3 Celsius

With windchill factor minus 10 Celsius

The Siberian snow came in from the east, named in the UK as 'The Beast From the East') to be met with Storm Emma, which blew in from the south. This is the result.

Amber Weather Alert. A red alert is 'Potential Danger to Life'.

Some brave people about, which I was keen to exploit in my compositions. People seem to be quite pleased to see someone with a 'big camera' under such conditions, they realise the relative novelty of the situation.

Within half hour buses simply turned around and gave up. Huge traffic chaos as people just wanted to get home. Fortunately for me, I am within 1km of Salisbury Cathedral and its Close (in this shot), so within easy walking distance.

More snow due later tonight and tomorrow, on already frozen icy quite deep snow, so it will be treacherous to venture out then.

For some of you Juza's, this is not unusual, but it is the 'worse' I've known in Salisbury in 15 years. But for southern England, it is disproportionately devastating. Plenty more pictures to add to the series in due course.

My flat's (apartment) heating system is not designed for such always minus 0 temperatures and cannot cope. I had to reheat my evening meal as it was already cold before I had half eaten it. It is cold!

Please be nice to me! But I am glad to have got a good few shots 'in the bag' should I not be able to leave home for a few days.

(ps I can certainly endorse the Berghaus Goretex full length overcoat, which kept me dry for nearly two hour's shooting. Under it, I had a fleeced jacket, a jumper, a shirt and a vest. Two pairs of socks under Goretex hiking boots. Jeans and thermal trousers. An insulated hat which the hood of the Berghaus flipped over and a scarf. Only my hands got cold, as the gloves slowly got drenched.

Indeed, Danilo, like old black and white film pushed to iso 3,200 (grain like golfballs, as we used to say in those far distance days!)
