Tangier Island is beautiful, and is located in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay in the state of Virginia, in the United States. The island was settled in the 1770's, and the watermen's livelihoods consist of harvesting Crabs and Oysters from the Chesapeake. Because the island is only a foot or so above the waterline, storms cause this beautiful quaint village to flood. Therefore homes are raised off the ground. Fishermen work on building such as these, built over the water and are scattered around the island. The multi-colored cages in the distance are crab pots that will be loaded into the boat that is tied up beside the building. (The lens was set at 98mm, the camera was handled, and I shot this from an in-bound ferry).
