#Giallo #Yellow Ecballium elaterium (L.) A. Rich. - Cocomero asinino Pianta perenne, erbacea, cespugliosa, carnosa, tuberosa, con fusti ispidi, robusti e striscianti, alta sino a 80 cm. Le foglie ispide e pelose, hanno lunghi piccioli, sono ovato-cuoriformi, con margine ondulato e dentellato, molto spesse e di colore verde-grigio. I fiori color giallastro, venati di verde, hanno corolla ± rotata a 5 petali, compaiono all'ascella delle foglie: i maschili riuniti in racemi, i femminili solitari e saldati ai rami, questi ultimi dopo la fecondazione producono un frutto verde, ovoidale coperto di peli ispidi e pendulo, il peduncolo che lo sostiene è ripiegato ad uncino e quindi l'attaccatura del frutto è rivolta verso l'alto. Antesi: maggio÷ottobre Su questa pianta è infeudato un Coleottero Coccinellide molto appariscente, la “Henosepilachna elaterii”, il cui nome specifico deriva appunto dalla sua stretta preferenza alimentare, anche se lo si può incontrare sulle Cucurbitacee coltivate. Se vi capitasse di notare un cocomero asinino, osservate bene le sue foglie, potrete accorgervi della presenza di una larva gialla, carnosa e spinosetta, intenta a divorarle.
