Veglio è una frazione antica di Montecrestese e un tempo intensamente abitata. Un ripido sentiero fra le rocce permette di raggiungere il sottostante centro abitato di Pontemaglio all'imbocco della valle Antigorio. Veglio era un tempo una delle frazioni più abitate e le case più antiche mostrano di risalire ai secoli XIII-XIV, ma molte altre furono ricostruite nei seguenti secoli e specialmente nel XVI. Contribuì all'allontanamento da questa frazione il supposto, ma non fondato, motivo che la sovrastante montagna fosse in procinto di franare. Gli abitanti erano detti "tuisch" (tedeschi).
